Geez, Jess. That blog title is super depressing.
Well, readers, dead dreams are super depressing.
But we are almost all okay with having dead dreams inside of us, aren’t we? The problem with dead dreams is that they take up space. It’s okay for some dreams to die. They weren’t meant to come full circle. The dreams I’m referring to are the GOD given dreams. You know which ones I’m talking about. They stirred you for months or years. Filled with hope and excitement, these were daring God SIZED dreams. Ones that would only be possible through Him.
We let them die.
I know we let them die because I let some of my dreams die. These dreams were just like a seedling given by God for us to nurture to life… We tended to the dream at first. Then we told some people about our new dream, gave it some time and some nutrients, journaled about it, prayed about it, read about it, etc. The seed turned into a tiny plant and we knew it was going to be amazing. That’s when we got really excited about these dreams. We saw growth. This dream was going to do great… it wouldn’t stay a dream.
But, we let them die.
We saw a weed of doubt sprout next to our dream plant. Yikes, if it was a dream from God… that shouldn’t be there, should it? Okay, I’ll remove that one. But then our focus turned to other things. The dream would be fine for a little bit without my attention. Life. Don’t we all give that as some sort of answer to answer a question…. Life. After some time, we come back to check on this dream and it isn’t looking its best. More weeds have shown up. It is a droopy dream now. This is where we let it die…. the work to revive the dream doesn’t seem worth it. There are so many doubts surrounding this dream now that we can’t remember what this seed of a dream was supposed to grow up to be.
They are dead.
Want to know a secret? It is a pretty good one, I think.
God sized dreams can be resurrected.
It may take you making this thing called life to be quiet. To stop the busyness that has been distracting you from what needs attention. It will most definitely require work on constantly removing doubts. It will require some mental shifts for you to see that God has spoken something into your heart, chosen you for this dream. Not sure what a God sized dream really is? That’s okay. God sized dreams bring glory to God. God sized dreams don’t have to be opening an orphanage in Africa. It might be to open a coffee shop. It may be supporting a ministry in BIG ways with time or finances. God sized / God breathed dreams need our attention. They need to be prayed over. They need to be shared. They need action steps… we do the natural while God does the supernatural.
During Pentecost, Peter reminded people of the prophet Joel’s words that young men shall see visions and old men will dream dreams. My prayer for you today… is that you’ll dream dreams. You’ll see visions. Not self-elevating dreams but God glorifying dreams. Kingdom minded dreams. I pray that you receive rain on your dead dreams.
As always… here is a great song.
