It is no secret that I have been sharing lately about the heartache we’ve been through. But I want to make sure it’s loud and clear that I’m
can’t won’t not going to stay in a constant state of pain. We all know what pain feels like to some degree but I’m not sure that we all know what it feels like to be healed. That’s what I want to make sure you hear today. Let this wash over you….
O Lord my God, I cried to you for help and you have healed me. Psalm 30:2
I shared on my social media this past weekend that Kari Jobe’s new album was really ministering to my soul. It reminded me of a night in February that I was at a house worshiping and God brought such an overwhelming visual to my mind. We want to be healed ASAP. No wait time. We want an emergency room for our soul that has no wait time and no need to follow any directions to get better or take care of our injury. But that isn’t what God wants for us. He doesn’t want a quick temporary fix. Plastic surgeons are known for being the best at stitching up wounds. They don’t rush. They take their time. God wants to do the same for us. Stitch by Stitch. Making sure our wounds are put back ever so carefully and done right so there isn’t a problem down the road.
For those who are Christ followers go on a little illustration with me. So, you roll up to a hospital to seek medical attention for whatever ailment you might have. The process requires you to 1) show up 2) walk in 3) address the problem 4) seek guidance from a dr. 5) get direction on how to fix yourself 6) apply that direction 7) time for that direction to take effect. There is a parallel here that I don’t want you to miss. It hit me like a ton of bricks. We can’t address our spiritual pain the same way we would address our physical pain.
We can’t address our spiritual pain the same way we would address our physical pain. We can not expect the things of this world to heal our internal, spiritual pain. We were not created that way. They will numb the sensation of pain but they will never heal it. This world may cause more damage to the pain because it isn’t being properly addressed.
Those of you who are in spiritual pain or discomfort today, I’m here to gently remind you.. You might be looking to the wrong thing to help or you may be trying to rush the doctor. You may feel as though a part of your life isn’t going the way it should. (Divorce, lost a child, marriage tension, marital status, children fleeing from truth, physical pain, overwhelming weariness … you get the point) That might make you upset, angry, hurt, frustrated…. I get it.
We are human. God gets it. But He doesn’t want us to stay there. We can’t stay there… that isn’t what He created us for. It’s time to check into the right place to get healing my friends. He will meet you there. It might be a process but I promise you it is one that is worth going through. Because every blog post is better with a song….
Don’t know where to start? Start by asking Jehovah-rapha (Lord my healer) to meet you where you are. I’m guilty of thinking I know best for my life often but the truth is I just don’t want to feel pain. God is working on your behalf this am.. He isn’t the one causing the pain… He is in the business of healing. I pray that wherever you are this morning, God would wrap His loving arms around you and that you would know He loves you deeply. I pray that you can sing this morning. I pray that you take a deeper breath this morning without the weight of situations around you. I pray that you take a step towards your healer. I pray that you feel the one stitch today being done on your behalf.
